Hi, I’m Faans
I’m a fine art photographer based in the Helderberg, Western Cape. I’ve been behind a camera for more than half my life, but it was only in 2023 that I started making work I actually wanted to show people.
Since then, my photographs have been exhibited at Unveiled in Bellville, Boston Open Studios, and Undercurrents. I’m still early in this. I’m also exactly where I want to be.
What hides in shadow still exists
Every piece begins with a conversation – not a brief, not a mood board. A real conversation. The person in front of my lens is always the primary text. Your story, your body and your boundaries shape the work as much as my vision does.

My practice sits at the intersection of photography, projection and text. I add meaning to an image by casting words onto skin, shaping light into shadow and layering fragments of literature into flesh. The result is something more than a photograph.
I work primarily with the male body – in all its shapes, sizes, ages and expressions – exploring modern masculinity: its performances, its contradictions, the quiet queerness it hides or haunts. I’m drawn to the space between what a body shows and what it quietly carries.
These are not portraits. They don’t offer answers. They ask questions.
